From wild fire destruction in California to plane crashes on the east coast, from wars far away to hunger and homelessness nearby, from the general anxiety of youth growing up in this internet age to the very personal ache of our longings for our son or daughter, the weight of the world is too much for us to hold.

But it is not too much for God. God sees all, knows all, holds it all with far more perfect love and longing than you or me, AND
God is not anxious.

This prayer prompt is an invitation to lean into the ache, share in God’s heart of love and longing, but also, to let God hold the full weight of the world that He alone can bear.

Hi there!
We are Holly and Erin and we are excited to tell you more about Pilgrim Collective!

Our friendship began over a decade ago, and in that time we have journeyed together (both figuratively and literally), learning, growing, and discovering along the way some older church traditions of contemplative prayer that we have found to be incredibly helpful in our noisy, modern lives. We think you too might need a little quiet, a little slowing down, a little waking up and coming alive to your life and the presence of God.

Our hope here at Pilgrim Collective is to create and curate meaningful, helpful content that will lead you to connect to your own heart and soul and to God. We are spiritual directors, and we believe spiritual friendship is vital for the soul. We hope Pilgrim Collective will be a place where you can connect and find spiritual companions.

Over the next month we will be sharing more of our opportunities and offerings to come. Our full website will launch later this month, and here on social media you can count on us to lay before you a buffet of recommendations—from simple meditations, prayers, and practices, to books and podcasts and other offerings that we believe are meaningful.

Life is full and fast-paced. Sometimes it is helpful to be reminded to pause. To be invited. For someone to say here are a few things you might choose from that might create the space you need and lead you to the rest and renewal and connection with God your soul craves.

Maybe you are in an isolated place, longing for spiritual friendship; perhaps you feel hopeful and spiritually alive or maybe dry, stuck, or spiritually homeless. Wherever you are on the path, we would love to come alongside and walk with you for a bit.

I’ve been sick and laying low the past few days,

I’ve been sick and laying low the past few days, wishing we had a blanket of snow covering the ground like so many do right now, and thinking about the challenge it can be to rest.

Courageous Rest
To allow oneself to be carried away by a multitude of conflicting concerns, to surrender to too many demands, to commit oneself to too many projects, to want to help everyone in everything, is to succumb to the violence of our times.

Some of us
need to discover
that we will not begin
to live
more fully
until we have the
courage to do and see
and taste and experience
much less than usual…

There are times
when in order to keep
ourselves in existence at
all we simply have to sit
back for a while and
do nothing.

And for a person
who has let themself be drawn
completely out of themselves
by their activity,
nothing is more difficult
than to sit still and r e s t ,
doing nothing at all.

The very act of resting is
the hardest and most
courageous act a person can
perform.
